In the early 1990's, I (Sandra Chang) began publishing comics with Mark Beachum under the auspices of Aja Blu Comix. In those days, the comics industry was healthy, we were at the tail end of the black and white explosion when Mutant Ninja Turtles paved the way for independent self-publishers. Anyone could publish comics from their drawing boards and distribute them to their neighborhood comic book stores. Since then the market has been in a horrible decline, all the distributers have been absorbed by the evil Diamond Distribution monopoly (who has a penchant for disliking small independents). Under these conditions, it's been practically impossible to self publish in the current market (without a lot of money for advertising). Fortunately, there is the internet, where the artist/creator can reach a limitless audience and can be (hopefully) self-sufficient. The mission of Latex and Guns is to create a venue for creators to bring their life's work to the public and hopefully be paid for it. Our goal is to become a "Heavy Metal" on-line but with artists running it, not corporate buisness people. Right now, there is only me, operating at a deficit and hoping to pull this site together with the help of a loyal fan base. When this site generates more income, I will be able to include other quality talent.
